Since 2006, politicians in Rhode Island have had 1,633 expenditures at donut shops for a total of $76,269.09. Probably to little surprise, these are largely dominated by Dunkin'. This post will take a look at spending that revolves around donut shops, from national chains to local shops, highest single expenditure, spending by year and more. Happy National Donut Day!

Arriving a bit late on 2021-Q1 campaign finance data, which was released at the end of last month totalling $1,507,741.19 dollars received by Rhode Island statewide politicians, down from the $2,777,997.78 received during 2020-Q4. The data includes individual donations, PAC's, interest from bank accounts and loans. This first table shows a breakdown of the top 20 campaign accounts that gained the most money and the source of the funds.

It's been over 2 years since my reddit Distance to Nearest Dunkin' post and i've been looking for a geo related Python project. So I decided to revisit and update it to address some of the issues with my first map that people pointed out. The data is released quarterly, so this consists of data from January 2021, and April 2021. This takes a look at who left, who joined and who remained as well as pay changes between the 2 quarters.

Last week the community raised over $2,000,000 dollars for non-profits in Rhode Island through 401Gives. 401Gives is a 24-hour fundraising campaign online using the platform GiveGab. Using the leaderboard api from GiveGab I collected general information about donations and visualized the data using Tableau, sadly the records lack any datetime records, so no breakdown by hour was possible.

This tutorial will walk you through creating a button to swap back and forth between showing the full years worth of data, and showing all years filtered to the most recent date in your dataset. This can be useful when trying to see how the current year compares with prior years when not yet occurring dates aren't included.

This is an interactive dashboard showing background checks for Rhode Island initiated by a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) using the FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). On the top part, you can see the yearly number of background checks conducted. Below shows the percent total of handguns vs long guns, note their are 2 additional types of "other" and "multiple" that are not represented in the bottom part and the total handguns + long guns will differ from the top half.

First iteration of my web app COVID-19 dashboard. This dashboard provides information about the status of COVID-19 within Rhode Island. All of the data comes from the google sheet provided & updated by the Rhode Island Department of Health. The goal of this dashboard is to provide a fast loading, mobile friendly option to people wanting a daily digest of COVID-19 information.
